Gardenmama: "I appreciate knowing the artist behind the creations I purchase for my family and home. Would you please share a bit about yourself today?"
Julie: "I am a single mom to three little girls. I raise my children and a couple of Babydoll sheep in a very rural area of North Carolina. I'm very passionate about natural birthing, parenting, breastfeeding and simple living.
My mother showed me the very basics of the basics about knitting when I was 14 years old, I'm now reteaching her and quite a few others. Knitting is something else I am passionate about and I love sharing this passion with others, whether I am knitting for them or teaching them to do it themselves.
I've slowly turned to knitting primarily for children. Simple, lovely toys that can inspire their imaginations.
Handwork is very meaningful for me, it's where I find my peace, my center. And it's something I love being able to share with my children. It's very important to me that they grow up with not just an appreciation of handmade but also the process of making, of creating"
Julie: "I love wool and wood. Whether I am knitting with it or needle felting, wool is my go-to fiber. Yes, I love it so much I am growing it in my back yard! Wood is a material I have just recently began working with. I enjoy the challenge of taking wooden pieces and incorporating them into my fiber work."
Gardenmama: "Please share some of the things we could expect to find through your shop?"
Julie: "Knitted and wooden toys with a smattering of adult accessories (fingerless gloves, hats, etc) and whimsical pieces for the home (candles, needlefelting).
