I am very excited to share with you one of my very favorite winter decorations! Many of you enjoyed my 'basic' window star tutorial from last year.
This year I look forward to sharing a 'Checkerboard' window star tutorial. These stars get their name from the beautiful checkerboard pattern that reveals itself in the folds as you craft your star!
What better way to bring the warmth and glow of this season into your home than from the sun--pouring through your windows to brilliantly illuminate your colorful star on even the coldest of wintery days!
Step One:
Set out eight pieces of kite paper on your work space. (Kite paper can be found here.)
Step Two:
Start with one sheet of kite paper and fold it corner to corner, making a triangle shape.
Make sure that the creases are sharp and your folds precise.
Step Three:
Unfold the last fold you made. Your kite paper will now be back to the original square shape with a sharp diagonal crease.
Step Four:
Next you will recreate the very same fold, only this time fold the opposite side corner to corner.
Step Five:
Next you will unfold this crease and your kite paper will be back to a square shape with an "X" folded into it.
Step Six:
Lift the lower right corner to the center and fold.
Step Seven:
Repeat this step on the opposite side. Both corners will meet in the center.
Step Eight:
Next, I turn my paper (to match the photo above.)
Starting from the very top point, match your paper right along the center crease and fold.
Step Nine:
Repeat this step on the opposite side starting from the very top point folding your paper over (as if you were creating a paper airplane) Your first piece to your star is now complete!
Step Ten:
Refer back to step two and begin folding the rest of the seven pieces of kite paper in the very same fashion. Soon you will have eight completed 'points' that will comprise your finished window star.
Step Eleven:
With a glue stick, spread glue onto your paper following the 'stars' on the photo.
Step Twelve:
Press the two papers together and continue adhering each additional point in the same manner as shown in the next photo.
Step Thirteen:
Continue to glue each additional point, moving in a circle until your star is complete.
Step Fourteen:
Your gorgeous window star is now complete! Now gather up your little ones to find the perfect window for your checkerboard star to glow!
Admire your handwork and notice the beautiful pattern you created by folding each paper! Now it is time to make a few more for your windows and some for gifts. (You will be addicted to making them and remember how to do them in your sleep!)
.: Warmest wishes to you in this beautiful season! :.
