Gardenmama: "Please share a bit about yourself Heidi!"
Heidi: "When I was little the only thing I wanted to be when I grew up was an artist, and I still don't have a back up plan. I attended Art School school for Illustration and my dream job is to illustrate Childrens books. My problem is that I enjoy all things crafty and it is hard to narrow the choices down.
I taught myself to sew my own clothing when I was sixteen after being inspired by the creative clothing I saw at a Phish concert. Soon after that I had my own unique wardrobe and I learned to express myself creatively through sewing and clothing design.
I became a mama very young in life and as soon as I was pregnant with my daughter my sewing creativity shifted from focusing on myself to making clothing and costumes her. As a young mama, I lived for Halloween time and creating fun unique costumes for my daughter.
When my daughter was still very small I attended Art School and had the opportunity to be an intern at the local Childrens Museum where my job was to dream up and create imaginative costumes for children. This started a new fire in me and I have been making and designing costumes for children ever since, but now I do it for myself. I started my Etsy shop, HumbleLuna in 2007 shortly before my second child was born."

Gardenmama: "What inspires you to create?"
Heidi: "The one thing that always inspires me to create is spending time out in nature. I am fortunate to live in a State where waterfalls and mountains and the Ocean are all within my reach. Nothing is more refreshing then standing in the mist at the base of a waterfall or searching the Ocean beaches for treasure. I have to get out of the city often or I start to go a little crazy.
People also are a huge inspiration for me. I love spending time with other creative people. My city is overflowing with creative, crafty people and while sometimes I feel like a small fish in a very big sea of creative folks, I am mostly inspired by how many people are making a living doing what they love.
My children are the inspiration for my costumes, they are always giving me new ideas."
Gardenmama: "What are some of your favorite things you are creating for your shop?"
Heidi: "The dragon tails are my favorite costumes to make. The idea of the dragon tail costumes came from my time as a costume design intern at the Childrens Museum. I needed a costume suitable for both boys and girls that was easy to put on and take off and suitable for a range of ages and durable enough to withstand many many hours of play. The tails give a cute little wiggle when the child moves about and it always crack me up. They always put a smile of the faces of people who witness our photo shoots."
