.: In Celebration of Creating Family Traditions :.

.:Vintage planters with cranberries floating in water as our medium for bulbs to grow!:.

As the snow continues to gather outside of our door we add another log onto the fire.  Our woolen slippers and sweaters provide another layer of coziness and the vintage record player quietly lends a peaceful rhythm into our day.  We light beeswax candles and embark on our own family Christmas tradition to plant Paperwhite Narcissus bulbs in vintage planters with fresh cranberries.

Each year we seek out another vintage planter to add to our collection.  Just as we set our ornaments out in a spot of honor, these planters are taken out with a similar reverence.  It is a delightful family tradition to trade the tablecloth that once graced the Thanksgiving table  for a new vintage tablecloth  in celebration of this new exciting season.  We then set out bowls for the children that are full with bulbs, fresh cranberries, and a glass pitcher of water in preparation for the planting to commence.

                                           

.: My littlest ones wooden clogs that recently held gifts from Saint Nicholas are now serving as a beautiful holder for our bulbs :. 

.:Each child takes their turn in filling up the planters with cranberries, adding the bulbs, and the water:.

There are many traditions that have been passed along to us from generations past, many that we all share almost universally.  I appreciate taking ownership of cultural traditions by adding simple elements that personalize the expression and make it that much more memorable and unique as we celebrate together.

 

.: Beeswax ornaments, oranges and cloves continue to play a special part in scenting our day :.

The music gently plays on, adding a celebratory atmosphere to the air. I notice that the snow has peacefully begun to fall once again. The children happily place the  bulbs and fresh cranberries into the planters in faith that a centerpiece of magic will soon emerge! 

 

.: Our planting is done and we look forward to watching the magic before our eyes unfold:.

In time these humble bulbs will begin to reach for the light right before our eyes. As the days count down towards Christmas,  we will awake every day to witness the daily unfurling of petal after petal, exposing delicately fragrant paper blooms that will fill the air with a spectacular and memorable perfume.
